Collegiate + St. Louis Shag
Du wolltest immer schon einmal zum wilden Swing der 20er-Jahre tanzen? Oder tanzt du bereits Lindy Hop und Collegiate Charleston, hältst bei den schnellen Titeln der späten 30er-Jahre aber nicht mehr Schritt? Vielleicht hast du aber auch Lust zur frühen Boogie und Rock’n’Roll Musik zu tanzen oder möchtest mal richtig gute Laune beim Paartanz zu erleben? Dann ist dieser Tanzkurs genau das Richtige für Dich! In diesem Kurs lernt ihr die Grundlagen vom Collegiate Shag und St Louis Shag.
Collegiate Shag
Collegiate Shag ist der wohl energiegeladenste Paartanz der Swing Ära. In den 30ern bis in die 50er-Jahre wuchs der Collegiate Shag in den USA und wurde von College Studenten zu schnellem Swing getanzt. Charakteristisch sind die energetischen Kicks und spielerischen Momente, die ein perfektes Match zum Up-Tempo-Swing (180-250+bpm) der späten Swing Ära bilden. Aber auch Fans von Rock’n’Roll und Boogie Musik finden hier einen passenden Tanz, der für gute Laune sorgt.

St Louis Shag
Praktisch jeder Ort, an dem in den USA der Swing Ära getanzt werden konnte, hatte seine eigene Variation von Shag. Eine ganz besonders elegante Variante davon ist zweifelsfrei der St. Louis Shag, der auch heute noch mit seinem eigenen Festival in St. Louis gefeiert wird. Entstanden in den 40er-Jahren, ist er in Europa eine absolute Nische und ein Geheimtipp, um auf dem Swing Dance Floor richtig erstaunte Gesichter zu hinterlassen. Auch St. Louis Shag wird zu schnellem Upbeat Swing oder Boogie Musik getanzt.

Hinweise zu Leader/Follower:
Shag - genau, wie alle anderen Swing Tänze, ist ein Social Dance. Du kannst Dich also gerne auch ohne festen Partner anmelden. Melde dich einfach als Leader oder Follower an. Partner werden während des Kurses getauscht (Du kannst das aber selbst bestimmen. Wenn du dich damit nicht wohl fühlst und das nicht möchtest, ist das auch ok!). Wenn du ab und an die Rollen (Leader/Follower) tauschen magst, gibt es dafür auch reichlich Möglichkeiten.

In this class, you'll learn the basics of Collegiate Shag and St. Louis Shag.
Collegiate Shag
Collegiate Shag is probably the most high-energy partner dance of the Swing Era.
It grew in popularity in the U.S. from the 1930s through the 1950s, especially among college students dancing to fast swing music.
It is characterized by energetic kicks and playful movements, making it a perfect match for up-tempo swing (180–250+ BPM) from the late Swing Era.
It’s also a great fit for fans of Rock’n’Roll and Boogie music who want a dance that’s guaranteed to put a smile on their face.

St. Louis Shag
Almost every place that had swing dancing during the Swing Era in the U.S. developed its own variation of “Shag.”
One of the most elegant of these is undoubtedly the St. Louis Shag, which is still celebrated today with its own dedicated festival in St. Louis.
Originating in the 1940s, this dance remains a hidden gem in Europe — perfect for surprising and impressing people on the swing dance floor.
St. Louis Shag is also danced to fast swing or boogie music.

Notes on Leader/Follower roles:
Shag — just like all other swing dances — is a social dance.
You are absolutely welcome to sign up without a fixed partner. Simply register as a Leader or Follower.
Partners will be rotated during the course — but only if you're comfortable with it. You can choose to dance with a fixed partner if you prefer.
If you’d like to occasionally switch roles (Leader/Follower), that’s very welcome too — there will be plenty of opportunities to do so.
